Forks over Knives
Several months ago my sister-in-law recommended a documentary to me, Forks over Knives. I would like to encourage you to watch it as well. The the movie examines the claim that most, if not all, diseases that affect us can be either controlled or reversed by rejecting animal-based and processed foods. What is your opinion? If you have netflix, you can watch it free.
My opinion:
I couldn't agree more. I think our culture eats WAY too much animal based products and uses it for fillers in our processed foods. With Christian and his food allergies , have been re-examining what I put into my body and my family's. A few years ago I watched another documentary called, Food Inc. I'm sure some of you have seen it as well. I was not able to eat meat for three days upon watching it, but the ideas have stayed with me.
side note: Maybe I will pursue a second degree in homeopathic nutrition? hmmm.....
I just find these concepts very interesting. God made the things of this earth to eat, but are we over consuming? Do we really need to have milk for breakfast with our bacon and eggs, then deli meat for lunch, with cheese and for dinner, how many chicken breasts do you really need in that casserole? Why has the government allowed such chemicals into our food? Could these chemicals be part of the cause of cancer?
here are the links to the two documentaries I shared with you.

I haven't watched Forks over Knives yet but I'm following Paleo (well actually more of Whole9 which is a bit more strict than Paleo) and I'm shocked at how much better I feel. It's right in line with no processed foods but it does center around meat. I don't eat tons, but I eat grass fed, pasture raised, etc. My mom also follows a super strict Paleo and has had majorly awesome results. She was having migraines on a dailey basis since she was 5 years old. A few years ago we found out she had Shogrins (a rare form of Lupus) which is an autoimmune disorder due to being Celiac. So...her results have been astounding and now she only gets a migraine a couple of times a month and usually do to cheating on her diet. I think it's fascinating the roll grains, dairy and sugar have played in our lives and the outcome of not eating them anymore. Study after study shows diseases being reversed simply by removing these three things. Obviously I can't speak for meat, since I am eating it. But I can speak to the benefits of removing grains, dairy and sugar. Pretty interesting....
ReplyDeleteAub, I completely agree with you. I don't think that meat is bad in any ways, I just think we, as americans, eat more than we really need. I too only eat grass fed, no hormones injected animals. I can seriously feel the difference. I think the Paleo diet is awesome and I've heard so many positive comments and results about it. I'm so glad you and your mom (and so many others) have found that food can be a major cause of so many medical conditions. I hope you watch the documentary. It is just interesting to hear of other theories.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely I will watch it. I'm continually fascinated with this topic!
